A Gross Way To Start The Day

I haven’t had anything in the Quote Corner category in forever, so here’s the first conversation I had with my husband at 6:30 am. 😃

Tim: I just pulled a ‘you.’
Me: (taking out my earplugs) What?
Tim: I just pulled a ‘you’ and stepped in cat puke.
Me: Oh, thank god.
Tim: Although, I don’t know how I missed it on the way to the bathroom. It’s right in my path.
Me: I don’t know how you always miss it.
Tim: I know.
Me: Well, I’m sad to say that makes me really happy.

Sometimes You Eat The Bear …

… sometimes the bear eats you.

It’s been the bear eating us at work for the last couple of weeks, and especially so for me and one of my co-managers. In the spirit of my working eleven hours today (not my scheduled shift), here’s an exchange I had with my husband via text. And while eleven hours of work is normal for some, and maybe not bad at some jobs, for retail it’s a nightmare. :))

My weird request of the day is having a lady come into the drugstore where I work and ask for Oregano Oil. In case anyone wonders, national chain drugstores aren’t specialty food markets.

Me: We need to setup the Xbox.
I just realized one of the reasons I miss playing WoW (World of Warcraft) is because I got to go home and kill shit.

Tim: Ok. I’ll set it up. Is it a kill shit kind of day?

Me: It’s an eviscerate shit from the face of the universe kind of day.

Quote Day #11

After I figured out that I was going to like every Mumford & Sons song I came across, I finally got smart and hit the Complete My Album button on iTunes. Better late than never.

‘Rip the earth in two with your mind

Seal the urge which ensues with brass wires.

I never meant you any harm

Your tears feel warm as they fall on my forearm.

But close my eyes for awhile

And force from the world a patient smile.

How can you say that your truth is better than ours?

Shoulder to shoulder, now brother, we carry no arms

The blind man sleeps in the doorway, his home

If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy I could have won.

But I gave you all … I gave you all … I gave you all

Close my eyes for awhile

And force from the world a patient smile.

But I gave you all … I gave you all … I gave you all

And you rip it from my hands and you swear it’s all gone

And you rip out all I have just to say that you’ve won.

And you rip it from my hands and you swear it’s all gone

And you out all I have just to say that you’ve won.

You won, now you won.

But I gave you all.’

–Mumford & Sons/Sigh No More – I Gave You All

Quote Day #9

I celebrated my thirty-third birthday this week. Being nine days older than my husband is something he Loves to bring up, especially this time of year. 🙂

Me: (with a  tummy-ache on my birthday) You brought me three Tums?? I only need two.

Tim: Yes. It’s a bonus Tums. Besides, a woman your age needs all the calcium she can get.

. . . (chirping crickets in silence) . . .

Me: You can feel the look I’m giving you, right? You don’t need to see it.

Tim: (cackling with laughter from down the hall) Yes!

This from the man who when I turned thirty, had the Edible Arrangements people put on the card: You’re not old, you’re ripe.

/facepalm

Quote Day #8

To alleviate some of the depressingness of my last post, here’s something a bit more lighthearted. The exchange took place today while I was in a grumpy mood and that stupid pillow pet dream lites commercial came on. (Oooo, that song is annoying.)

Me: Not every kid is afraid of the dark. You’re just making a wimpy kid.

Tim: It’s just a nightlight.

Me: I never had a nightlight! And I was terrified!

Tim: Aaaand there it is.

Me laughing: The root of the problem?

Tim: Yep.

Quote Day #7

Two quotes today, one of which comes from my first novel. It may not be published, but I got the phrase stuck in my head the other day, so what the heck. 😀

“They that love beyond the world cannot be separated from it.
Death cannot kill what never dies.
Nor can spirits ever be divided, that love and live in the same divine principle, the root and record of their friendship.
If absence be not death, neither is theirs.
Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas;
They live in one another still.”

–William Penn, More Fruits of Solitude

“Idle hands make mutineers, Miss Forristar.”

–Jessica Paul, Destiny Seekers

Quote Day #6

Nope, did not forget. I’ve got two quotes about writing today. Enjoy!

“Substitute “damn” every time you’re inclined to write “very”; your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.”

–Mark Twain

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”  –Ernest Hemingway
